Abstract

INSEE was created by the Budget Law of 27 April 1946 . It is a Directorate-General of the Ministries for the Economy and for Finances and is located in offices throughout the French territory. INSEE’s professional independence is enshrined in law : the Economic Modernisation Law of 4 August 2008 established the Official Statistics Authority, which has a responsibility to ensure that the principle of professional independence is maintained in the design, production and dissemination of official statistics.
