dc.description.abstract | The sample survey of income and expenditure is an important survey of official statistics which describes the living conditions of households in Germany. Among other things, the survey provides statistical information on the equipment of households with consumer durables, their income, property and debt situation and final consumption expenditure. As households of all social groups are covered, the sample survey of income and expenditure provides a representative picture of the life situation of almost the entire population in Germany. The results of the sample survey of income and expenditure form a major data source especially for the Federal Government’s reporting on poverty and wealth and for determining consumption which is of relevance regarding the basic security standard rates. Within the system of official statistics, the household final consumption expenditure results obtained from the sample survey are used to update the weighting pattern of consumer price statistics. In addition, they serve as a data basis for the expenditure approach in national accounting. | |
